Today's improbable mail:
1. A two volume set of Miller's Anesthesia, which weighed about 13 pounds total.
2. A book from the British Library. Apparently what they do with book they're mailing is package them up, label the package, and then throw that into a giant bag made of blue tarp (and I mean several weeks of laundry giant). I asked my boss what we do with them - save them to send back? dispose of them? - and apparently they sit in a drawer because we don't know what to do with them. "If you ever need a bag....feel free to you know, take one...or a few." UK flisters: is this some peculiarity of the British Library, or does this make sense in context of your mail system?
And the grand prize of improbability:
3. A pass-through for the University of Ottawa. Pass-throughs are what we call books that our patrons have checked out directly from other libraries but give to us to return. Usually, this means they're from libraries that you could spend an afternoon at - Harvard, the other Boston Library Consortium libraries, various public libraries in the area. You know, local, T accessible type places. In case anyone was unsure, Ottawa is not accessible by T. (And how did they get borrowing privileges there? I have a good guess on who it was, and I kinda want to email her all, "WTF?")

Also: note to self: before decided to take a 20 minute walk in 90 degree weather to pick up a book, check to see if the library you spend all day in has a copy.
