So, last weekend I went and saw Haywire! And I really enjoyed it, and so now I'm going to tell all of you about it.

It reminds me a little bit of the Bourne movies, in that it's about an agent who finds themselves sold out by their supervisors, and spends the movie trying to find out why. (Haywire is a little less global in scope than the Bourne films, and also there's no amnesia, tragically.)

The other major difference - and the reason I went and saw this in the first place - is that its main character is played by Gina Carano, who, before her career change, was a women's MMA star. So, basically, she went from actually beating people up to beating people up on film (I believe she did most of her own stunts.) AND IT'S GREAT.

Other great things about this movie: no one gives her shit about being a woman - she's very very good at what she does and everyone knows it. no one ever threatens her with sexualized violence. she spends a lot of time in flat boots.

Okay, and to elaborate on that last point cut for a lot of feelings about women's bodies, women's clothes, and so on )

A dumb thing that made me happy was spoilers for who lives and dies )

One thing I was wondering about was major spoilers for some of the last scenes of the film )

anyway, it's great. i recommend it.
