I hesitate to call this a primer, because it's mostly just basic stuff off wikipedia and google image search that is hopefully not wildly incorrect, and i don't think there's quite enough info to warrant the title 'primer'. perhaps i will call it an encouragement.

SOME BADASS LADIES OF SKATING YOU SHOULD KNOW (cut for lots of images and bold text )

Thus ends the encouragement. I know it's not a lot of info, but I hope it might at least be an inspiration? And I actually enjoy research, so I'm perfectly willing to track down dates or facts or results, should you be looking for something in particular. for, say, fic you might write. hint hint.

And I know I am missing lots of awesome ladies! So if you have a favorite lady skater than I haven't included, you should tell me all about her.

1. I have keys to my new apartment! I emailed the person I'm renting the room from, asking if we could meet up this weekend so I could get keys so I could move in this week without having to coordinate with having the roommates around, and she's just like, "oh, i'll just leave them in mailbox! come by anytime to get them!" which, okay, if that's how you want to do it. So I picked up the keys, and I of course had to make sure I knew how they worked, so I let myself in, and either no one was home or they were doing a very job of pretending not to be home. And I totally took the opportunity to be a total creeper and wander around peeking into things. /o\ mostly, i was poking around the room that will be mine - measuring things, finding the outlets, seeing if my curtains will fit the windows - but i swung through the kitchen too. i just wanted to know how full the fridge and freezer were! and i learned they have a visitor parking permit (it was on the fridge! i wasn't like going through their drawers!), which will be useful when my parents rent a car to help me move, because Somerville is seriously trying to have the world's least friendly to outsiders parking regulations.

2. I made a post last night about some awesome ladies of figure skating, and i realized today that it was locked for no good reason, but it's unlocked now. (LJ | DW) I also realized there are no pairs ladies, and I was going to say that this isn't a sign that i love pairs less, but it totally is. /o\ later tonight i will have a post up with some awesome pairs ladies, although it will probably be briefer because i know less about them.

3. I grabbed Connie Willis's To Say Nothing of the Dog and Doomsday Book to read this weekend, after seeing them recced in a couple of different places recently. Due to a misunderstanding between me and the cover text, I thought To Say Nothing of the Dog was the first, so I read that first. I then assumed that Doomsday Book, being written by the same author and set in the same universe, would be similar in theme, tone, and message. I do not know if I have ever been more wrong in my life.
