Has it really been almost a month since I posted? Goodness. I blame hockey. Apparently I was too busy having ALL OF THE FEELINGS to post. (Especially yesterday - I spent all 24 hours of April 27 EST basically distraught, in a way that I now look back at and wonder WTF was wrong with me. It was not good.) Anyway, here are some things.
-I joined a gym! Sort of. Not really. Perhaps 'I will have joined a gym' is closer. See, I went on a tour about a week and half ago, and at the end I wasn't ready to sign up because I am incapable of making on the spot decisions, and also I wanted to tour the location right near my apartment, and I told the guy that. It wasn't supposed to be a tactic of any kind, but I think it might have come across as one? Because he was like, "well, take a guest pass! and feel free to come work out while you think it over, and I'll get in touch in a few days to hear what you've decided." only i haven't heard from him yet, so I'm still using the free guest pass.
So I've been a couple of times to swim - both because swimming is my favorite kind of work out and also because it requires me to bring the least amount of stuff with me. Today was the first time the pool was "full" - ie, two people in each lane. Now, I am a veteran of swim team, so I did what seemed reasonable to me, and asked a lane if they'd be willing to circle swim so 3 could share the lane, and we did, and it worked mostly okay, and then some people left so we re-distributed and it was back to two per lane.
Except when I left, there were two or three folks just standing at the edge of the pool, waiting for lanes to open up. So either I have violated some unwritten rule by asking to circle swim, or the gym is full of people who can't manage to say "excuse me, do you think we could circle swim?" (and yes, it's annoying to circle swim, but it's more annoying to stand around basically naked for 20 minutes giving people the death glare until they finish their work out.)
Also, I am looking for some things! All sorts of things, so if you have pointers or thoughts on where I should be looking, pass them on:
1. Casual blouses to wear to work. I have a couple of nice blouses, but they're very polished and sleek, and just not right for my 'all jeans, all the time' workplace. (US size 6ish, gap/old navy-type budget, tall sizes useful but not required.)
2. Skirts to wear to work. Because I am pretty sure if I wear jeans all summer, I will be miserable. (US size 8-10ish, fullish cut, knee length, bold but not bright patterns preferred.)
3. Protein-heavy snacks. Preferably things I can leave in my desk for a week. I know nuts are the traditional answer, but I don't like them enough to snack on them, which sort of defeats the purpose.
4. Books to read on the train! SF/F, history, science, history of science, as long as they're not 900 page tomes only in hardcover. (I'm looking at you, Wise Man's Fear.)
