Okay, I have been working for this company as a temp, right? And they are the worst organized company in the world, or at least the group I've been working for is - there's a lot of 'hang on for a half hour or so while the data finishes processing so we can give it to you.' Not that I mind, strictly speaking - it also means they don't care when you say 'I'm gonna be late tomorrow because I have an interview*' - but it does mean that there's fair bit of down time, and there's only so long I can spend amusing myself on work-appropriate parts of the internet. (OTOH, we had a conversation - a work-related conversation - last week about seasonal trends in porn.) Combine this with a 45 minute commute** and the fact I usually go to lunch on my own, and my 'to read' pile is rapidly dwindling. So give me your recs! I read just about everything. In fiction, I like urban fantasy, space opera, fantastical history, and anything that is aware of its own ridiculousness. In non-fiction, I like history, history of science, history of medicine, pop science, pop psych and so on.

*Phone interview for a job doing communications for a small tech non-profit. I think it went well overall, but at the end of the interview, the guy said "because of your background, I wanted to mention that we'll be posting another job in a few weeks [etc]", which says to me that I'm probably not going to get this job but that he liked me enough to want to talk to me about the other thing. :D: (He is absolutely right. If they had been posted at the same time, I would have applied to the other one and not this one.)

**SPEAKING OF COMMUTING: if you are making a commute in the typical direction at the typical time, yes, the train gets crowded. It can be tricky to get off, and it's a good idea to give your neighbors a heads up so they can make way. HOWEVER, this does not apply if you are getting off at Park Street, because THE ENTIRE FUCKING TRAIN IS GETTING OFF AT PARK STREET, and your shoving through the car is totally unnecessary.

In totally unrelated news: There is a season two Vampire Diaries promo! I am excited for this show to come back. I especially love that the music in the trailer is the Pretty Reckless. it's the perfect pairing of things that you think are going to be teenie and ridic, but are in fact awesome.

ETA: In even less relevant news, I saw this clip today of JGL on the Daily Show. Promoting 10 Things I Hate About You. (yes, that was a long time ago. yes, he looks like a child.) I almost fell out of my chair, I laughed so hard.
