I had the weirdest phone call this morning. I had applied for a job, and a woman from recruiting called me to 'talk about my background' which I had understood to mean sort of a screening interview, but basically she spent 20 minutes talking about the job and the duties and what kind of person they're looking for, and they're actually going to interview me tomorrow. Which was not what I was expecting, but I sort of appreciate the chance to take notes and get my story straight so that when they say things like "This job requires $quality. Give us an example of a time you demonstrated $quality" I don't have to be fast on my feet in thinking, which, frankly I am not good at.

and now I set off to see if I can get my heels fixed before an interview tomorrow morning. wish me luck!

I did manage to get my heels fixed, hurrah. It took about six times as long as I thought it would, and cost about twice as much (2.5 hrs, $15), but now they are wearable to my interview tomorrow.* I had walked there and didn't feel like walking back to my apartment, then back to pick them up, so I hung out in the public library down the road, which was huge, comfy, well air-conditioned, and had copies of the latest Novik book not eligible for the hold queue, so I could take one instead of waiting in the hold line. Score! I also wandered around the library, because it was new and shiny, and learned that they prefer Dewey Decimal over LoC, which, WHY GOD WHY.

*This interview process gets weirder and weirder. The nice lady I spoke to this morning couldn't schedule me immediately, because she needed to check the schedules of the other people who'd actually be working with me so they can talk to me too. All well and good - I gave her my availability, she said she'd be in touch. Only I didn't expect to be gone for four hours this afternoon on my shoe errand, so I left my phone to charge rather than taking it with me, so I panicked a little when checking my email from the library (yes, I have a problem) when she said that someone else would "be in touch", only when I got home I had no messages, no missed calls, and no emails. As instructed, when I hadn't heard anything by four, I emailed her again - since her number went to a message that 'the voicemail system is busy' - with an email whose subtext was basically 'ftlog tell me when i need to be there tomorrow.' she got back to me with 'they're putting together an email with details for you, but plan to be here by 930 am!'

cut because my over-thinking was beginning to get out of hand. )
