May. 18th, 2009 07:20 pmOnce again, I get to the end of term and think, "oh, I'm just stressed out; I'll calm down during reading period/finals." Once again, I am so so wrong. Finals week makes me crazy. Not the finals themselves (although I have had a number of charming nightmares about finals whose dates and times have changed without me realizing it!), just finals week. I think it's the lack of structure that leads to me stewing in my own neuroticisms. (I keep having to talk my boss out of giving me time off during finals week. She's like, "we don't want to take away from your studying time!" and I haven't figured out the polite way to explain that the two hours I lose going in to work are so much less important than the sanity that requiring me to shower and eat breakfast and be somewhere on time regularly provides.)
Things I have done instead of studying:
1. Watched this vid. A few Several Many times.
2. Concluded that re: new!Kirk: I would hit it so hard. (So my [fictional character] type it's not even funny.)
3. Contemplated the similarities between Kirk and Crichton.
4. Had several minor freakouts about things that are deeply improbable and probably fixable should they actually occur.
5. Rejoiced at the fact I'm going to see my therapist tomorrow.
6. Made a serious attempt to read all of the Batfamily fic ever.
7. Gone back and forth on the grad school thing like 8 times.
8. Cursed all the factors that led to my school being in such an odd place wrt its undergrad linguistics program.
9. Tried to read all the Entourage fic. Realized I had done that already.
10. Dug outline of long abandoned orig fic out of storage. Contemplated. Even wrote.
11. Got stuck halfway through a fantasy novel a friend recommended; may have to figure out a polite way to decline all book recs from this friend ever.
12. Wondered why WorldCat redid their interface to be all AJAX-y/flashy/web 2.0, rather than something useful. (Do you know what I would kill for? An interface that lets me search on WorldCat but limited the results to certain libraries that I have access to, thus solving my ongoing temptation to break into Widener.)
At least I haven't picked up a new TV show or gone totally nocturnal yet (both features of finals weeks past!).
