I wanna voooooote. I got my ballot in the mail today (okay, I picked up my mail today, and it was there.) But I need a witness to sign that it was blank when I got it so I can't fill it out yet. In one of the glorious quirks of Minnesota voting law, my absentee ballot needs to be witnessed by a notary, someone liscensed to perform public oaths, or someone registered to vote in MN. I have a friend on the fencing team who's from St Paul, so we're going to have a stately and dignified voting moment in the locker room after practice today. Voting while half naked: something you only get to do with an absentee ballot.

And I am of course a conscientious voter who takes this process very seriously, so I did my research on the local candidates (which basically means ...school board, because for statewide office or higher I pretty much vote a straight DFL ticket.) and man, I am baffled by some of these profiles. Like the woman who wants a seat on the Minneapolis Public School Board...so that she can increase support for charter schools, school vouchers, and homeschooling. Whatever your thoughts on those programs are, I think we can agree that the school board isn't the place to do it from. (And then there's this guy - I can't tell if he's serious about improving the north-side schools, or, you know, a crazy racist.)

SRS CIVIC DUTY IS SRS.
