Oct. 3rd, 2008 12:32 amSomething occurred to me as I was watching the debate tonight. Until now, I had avoided listening to her talk for extended periods of time, so tonight was the first time it hit me: despite her mountain west family and Alaskan upbringing, she has the stereotypical Minnesotan accent. Now, normally when the Minnesotan accent comes up, I shrug it off with something like 'Oh, we don't actually talk like that.' But today at practice, one of our freshmen turned to me and asked if I was from the Midwest. When I said yes, Minnesota, she said "I thought so! You sound like my relatives there!" /o\ Do not want.
please please tell me I don't sound like Palin.
Also, as long as we're talking quirks of accents and all, I know that lots of people find the 'nukular' pronunciation of 'nuclear' incredibly grating, but I never even notice it until it's pointed out. And yes, I probably say it that way. I'll go turn in my over-educated liberal coastal elitist card now.
