in which i am a moderately insane person
lots of people were bothered by things about white collar this week. so was i!
-not an actual club in NYC, as far as i know, but i'll work with it!
-fun fact: every fencing club i've been in (although not the ones at universities) has been in a basement. often with low ceilings, exposed pipes, and a questionable smell. certainly not in gorgeous spaces with floor to ceiling windows and bookshelves and leather chairs in the corner.
-the introductory epee is....not terrible! i wonder who they got to do this.
-the awkward pulling of the bottom of the jacket caused by the crotch strap certainly is true to life.
-'in here, they encourage disguises.' uh.....let's talk about how well labeled your average competitive fencer is, with the names in big letters down the leg or across the shoulders. also, why didn't you take this dude's advice and leave them in masks and bring back the stunt doubles?
-that is ALMOST PLAUSIBLY a sabre. i'd even be willing to overlook the blade being wrong because real sabres don't show up well on camera.
-EXCEPT WTF IS THIS SHARP THING?
-AND WHO THE FUCK ARE YOUR COACHES, THAT THEY'D LET YOU EVEN POINT A SABRE AT SOMEONE WITHOUT A MASK.
-'i'm still using the french grip.' okay, quick lesson: foils and epees can be customized with many kinds of grips. two of the most common are french and pistol. if this was epee, that would be a plausible thing to say. but sabres.....only come in one kind of grip.
-crossover! yellow card to my left.
- i can't even say anything about this french terminology.
-neal's footwork has.....a certain ring of authenticity to it. just not the one they were going for.
-i can't even deal with that last exchange of blows. just....no.
-oh. THAT'S how a fencing club affords a space like that.
wait, are you saying you had complaints about something other than the depiction of a semi-obscure sport?
ps: it's 'en garde'
(all jokes aside, there were a number of other issues, which other people have addressed. it's just this one makes me lose my shit.)

no subject
Out of curiosity, because I am way out of the loop fannishly, where are you seeing the other issues addressed? I need to get some White Collar on my reading list (on dw or lj or both) and so am looking for people with opinions!
