1. Is anyone from Boston seeing Empires when they're on the East Coast, or the Hush Sound when they're in CT? Did I ask this already? I don't even care. I wanna see another show this summer.

2. I've found out that there's a library branch closer to me than the one I was visting (1.5 vs 2.5 miles round trip), and it's summer, which means more free time and nicer weather to walk there. Anyone have recs of things I should be reading? I'm looking for smart fantasy (for YA fantasy) written in the last few years in particular, but I'm easy. (I read mostly fiction, but also some non-fiction for the non-technical reader - I like history and especially history of science, but again, easy.) Also, does there exist a good book on anthro or sociology for the general reader?

3. A quarter of the staff is out of the office at work. We got twice as much mail as usual. Of course we did. Of course. (Also? If a book arrives for you and I know it's for you without looking at any of the paperwork? You perhaps should seek help for your ILL problem. Especially if you are one of the people working on Dark Ages England, the late Roman Empire, or mid-century Central American coffee production.)

There's going to be a bunch of us at the Hushies in Hartford...I'm pretty sure of me, Giddy, Janet Carter, Lea, Faye, and I think parts of Team Canada?

And I'm still debating the Long Island Empires show. On the one hand: EMPIRES. On the other: $ NEW YORK HOTEL ROOMS. :(

I'm probably seeing Empires in Philly, maybe in Hoboken (MAXWELLS!!!!!). And I'm going to the Hushies both in Philly and Hartford! I'm taking my best friend and my little sis to the Hartford show, I'm so excited :D :D

I had to get a zillion articles through ILL in undergrad because our library sucked, but I have yet to get a book.

As for fantasy... have you read any Tanya Huff? It's a little bit fluffy, but I love her because a) lady! b) queer! c) Canadian! The Four Quarters series is a good place to start with her stuff. I don't know how you feel about more SF-tinged fantasy, but C.S. Friedman's Coldfire Trilogy is amaaaaaaaaazing. Actually, I should go find the box I put the books in and start re-reading that one.

Books \o/ Avoid Stephenie Meyer at all costs. Isabel Hoving, however, is good :D
